Should I get a second opinion or just trust the first diagnosis?

I’ve got a situation that’s been bugging me for days and I could really use some outside perspective. My 2013 A7 has been having some transmission issues, mainly rough downshifts and a clunking noise when coming to a stop, so I took it to a shop that came highly recommended by a friend. The mechanic did a test drive, plugged in his diagnostic tool, and after about an hour told me that the transmission needs a complete rebuild and quoted me a price that made my jaw drop. He showed me some codes on his scanner and explained that there was metal in the fluid, which apparently means internal damage. It all sounded very convincing and I was ready to just accept it and hand over the car. But then I started thinking, what if this guy is wrong? What if it’s something much simpler and cheaper that he’s either missing or not telling me about? I’ve read so many stories on this forum about people getting quoted for major repairs only to find out later that it was something minor like a sensor or a solenoid. I’m not saying this mechanic is dishonest, but I also know that transmission rebuilds are big money jobs and maybe he’s just seeing an opportunity. I’m seriously considering getting a second opinion before I commit to anything, but I’m also worried that I’m just wasting time and money on another diagnostic when the first guy was probably right. The thing is, I really can’t afford to be wrong about this. If I spend all that money on a rebuild and it turns out it wasn’t necessary, I’ll be kicking myself forever. But if I ignore his advice and the transmission fails completely, I’ll be in an even worse situation. I’ve been looking into finding an expert Audi gearbox specialist in Musaffah Shabiya because I’ve heard there are some really experienced guys in that area who deal with these transmissions all the time. I figure if I take it to someone who specializes in Audis, they might have a better understanding of whether this is truly a rebuild situation or if there’s another solution. I’m just so torn about what to do. Has anyone else been in this position where you got a big quote and then got a second opinion that saved you money? Or did you get a second opinion and it confirmed the first diagnosis and you just ended up spending more on diagnostics? I really need some advice because I’m going back and forth and I need to make a decision soon before my car gets worse. Any insights or experiences would be so appreciated.
