Hello. I have workshop and want to build a small lifting mechanism for equipment. It needs to be able to smoothly lift and lower objects weighing approximately 40-50 kg. It’s important that the movement be as smooth as possible, not jerky. I’ve looked at various options, but hydraulics seem too complicated and expensive. I’d like to build the system myself so I can understand how it works.

A 12 volt linear actuator would be perfect for your application. These actuators are specifically designed for smooth movement under varying loads. Models with varying thrust, speed, and stroke length are available on the Progressive Automations website. A 100-150 lbs capacity would be suitable for your application, providing ample safety. All these units operate on 12V, which is convenient because you can use either adapter or battery. Installation is also easy: mounting holes are included, and special brackets are available for additional convenience.

I would recommend first deciding what kind of stroke you need. For example, if you need to lift an object 30–40 cm, choose a drive with sufficient stroke. Also, consider speed. Sometimes it seems faster is better, but in practice, smoother, slower movement is often more convenient and safer. Also, don’t forget to consider the control system. There are simple toggle switches, as well as more complex units with the ability to synchronize control of multiple drives.

Hello! For lifting 40–50 kg smoothly without hydraulics, you can use a lead screw (or ball screw) mechanism with an electric motor. It provides precise control and smooth, jerk-free motion, especially with a speed controller. A worm gear motor is also a good option since it ensures stable movement and holds position.

To improve stability, add linear guides or rails to keep the motion aligned and reduce vibration.

This focus on smooth and efficient movement is similar to tools like the Multi Stop Route Planner App, which optimizes routes for better performance.

      Good luck with your build!
