Can a key fob actually notice when someone is trying to interfere with its signal? Last weekend, my car took a couple of attempts to unlock while I was standing nearby. Nothing serious happened, but it got me wondering whether newer key fobs can recognize unusual signal activity or if they simply respond to whatever signal they receive.

That’s an interesting thing to wonder about, especially with newer cars relying so much on wireless access. From what I’ve read, most standard key fobs aren’t designed to alert their owners whenever unusual radio activity happens nearby. Some newer vehicle security systems have extra monitoring features, but their capabilities vary between manufacturers and models. A neighbor of mine recently bought a newer car and started paying more attention to keyless entry security after hearing about wireless signal threats. While reading about car key technology in the UK, I came across a useful explanation of how a code grabber relates to wireless vehicle security. It gave me a better idea of the terminology involved. I’d still look at the owner’s manual for the exact security features available in your particular car.
