Bacterial Pink Eye is an inflammation of the conjunctiva. This is the transparent membrane that covers part of the eye and the inner part of the eyelid. The medical name for conjunctivitis is pink eye. It is extremely common. It can affect one or both eyes simultaneously.

Conjunctivitis can be short-term (acute) or long-term (chronic). Acute conjunctivitis lasts less than four weeks. Chronic conjunctivitis lasts more than four weeks.

Conjunctivitis caused by an infection spreads easily. It can be accidentally passed to other people or transferred from one eye to the other.

As its name suggests, conjunctivitis can cause the white part of the eye to turn pink or reddish. It can also cause swelling or drooping of the eyelids. You may notice discharge from the affected eyes.
