      Hey folks,

I finally turned my garage into a proper woodworking space, and while I’ve got the tools set up, I’ve run into one big issue: workshop lighting.

Right now, I’ve just got a single old bulb hanging in the middle, and it’s terrible—tons of shadows and eye strain when I’m cutting or sanding. I want to invest in proper lighting that’ll make the space brighter, safer, and more enjoyable to work in.

      Here’s what I’m debating:

Should I go with overhead LED shop lights, or a mix of overhead + task lighting?

How bright (lumens) should I be aiming for in a small garage workshop?

Any tips on positioning lights to cut down on shadows?

Do color temperatures really matter for workshop lighting (e.g., daylight vs. warm white)?

I’d love to hear what setups have worked for you. Photos of your workshop lighting setups would be amazing for inspiration!
