I run a small landscaping company with six trucks and a few trailers carrying expensive equipment. Lately, I’ve had issues with drivers taking unofficial detours during work hours, and last month one of our trailers went missing overnight. I’m looking into GPS tracking solutions to monitor assets in real time. Has anyone implemented fleet tracking for a small operation? What should I look for in terms of hardware reliability, subscription costs, and data accuracy?

Make sure the platform shows historical playback, not just live location. Knowing where vehicles traveled during the day helped us resolve a customer dispute about a missed delivery. Some providers also integrate directly with invoicing software, which saves a lot of administrative time at the end of the month.

When my brother expanded his courier operation from two bikes to eight vans, he quickly realized that manually tracking drivers with phone calls was completely unsustainable. A driver once claimed to be across town when his customer had already waited an hour. That incident led him to research dedicated asset-tracking platforms more seriously. After reading various platform comparisons online and checking logistimatics to see how the hardware performed in urban environments with tall buildings, he eventually settled on a solution that offered both plug-in vehicle trackers and standalone battery-powered units for the trailers. The combination of both tracker types solved his asset visibility problem almost immediately.
