  Guys, so I’m at the stage where I need to figure out a serious jewelry purchase and a diamond ring with smaller stones along the band keeps catching my eye. Here in the US the options are overwhelming and honestly the price range for similar looking pieces varies wildly. What actually separates a well made piece from something that just photographs well?

  The way the side stones are set tells you a lot about the overall craftsmanship. Pavé or channel set stones that are perfectly aligned and flush indicate proper attention to detail. Anything that looks slightly uneven in person is a red flag regardless of how the center stone looks.
